Thoughts about following Jesus

Morning Prayer 1.0

Morning Prayer{Matthew 6:9-13; ESV}

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.”

My Lord and My God, I praise You for being who You are. You are my Creator and I thank You for giving me life. You are my Heavenly Father and I love You for bringing me into Your family.

{Psalm 16:11; ESV}
You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Good Shepherd, as I begin this day I ask that You will lead me on the path of life. It is so easy for me to become distracted by the things of this world. Everything from politics to sports to responsibilities to emergencies distract me from my true calling, and I find myself constantly wandering away from You.

Watch over me, pursue me when I wander, pick me up when I stumble, and correct me when I disobey. I want to live the life You created me to live.

Lord, show me the futility of a life based on the things of this world. Remind me that the things of this world pass away, so my true desire can be eternal things. Put into my heart the longings for love and truth so that my supreme desires can only be found in You.

I surrender my life to You, Christ Jesus. Guide me to true and eternal life.

{Colossians 3:1-4; NLT; Personalized}
Since I have been raised to new life with Christ, I set my sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. I think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For I died to this life, and my real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is my true life, is revealed to the whole world, I will share in all his glory.

Holy Spirit, You know my heart and my mind so I ask that You will reveal to me the earthly and impure thoughts, motives, and desires that reside in me. Help me to say no to these things so I can set my sights on the things of heaven

Renew my heart and mind so I will desire heavenly things. Strengthen my will so I can say no to the things of this world. Give me eyes to see from an eternal perspective. Empower me to live a life that glorifies you. This is the true desire of my heart.

Help me Father to pursue You with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help me Lord Jesus to live a life that honors You. Help me Holy Spirit to be guided by You each day.

{Romans 12:1-2; ESV}
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Jesus, I thank You for leaving heaven, becoming a man, living a perfect life, and sacrificing Yourself for all of creation. It is Your sacrifice, followed by Your resurrection, that fills my life with hope.

I declare that today I am surrendering my life as a living sacrifice to You. My life no longer belongs to me, but it belongs to You! I surrender this day to You, so reveal to me how You want me to use today. Help me to use it productively for Your kingdom.

Lord, I give You my life! I belong to You!

{2 Timothy 1:9; NLT; Personalized}
For God saved me and called me to live a holy life. He did this, not because I deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show me his grace through Christ Jesus.

Most glorious God! I ask You to open my eyes to this wonderful liberty with which Christ has made me free. May I enter fully into Your word, that sin shall have no dominion over me because I am not under the law but under grace. May I know my liberty which I have in Christ Jesus, and stand fast in it.

Father! Your service is perfect liberty: reveal this to me. You are the infinitely Free, and Your will knows no limits but what its own has placed. And You invite me into Your will, that I may be free as You are free. O my God! show me the beauty of Your will, as it frees me from self and from sin, and let it be my only blessedness. Let the service of righteousness so be a joy and a strength to me, having its fruit in sanctification, leading me into Your Holiness.

Blessed Lord Jesus! my Deliverer and my Liberty, I belong to You. I give myself to Your will, to know no will but Yours. Master! You and You alone would I serve. I have my liberty in You! be my Keeper. I cannot stand for one moment out of You. In You I can stand fast: in You I put my trust.

Most Holy God! as Your free, obedient, loving child, You will make me holy. Father, I plead that You will make me holy before You make me mighty. Transform my character to conform to Your holiness.*

{Deuteronomy 30:19; NLT}
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”

Giver of Life, I come before You today and thank You for the blessing of life. My existence I owe to You, and so I thank You for choosing life for me.

Lord, You have also given me the responsibility of caring for this life. That is why I plead to You for wisdom as well as a discerning heart so I am able to make the right choices that will keep me connected to the source of life: Christ Jesus.

I want to choose life Father, but I need Your wisdom, guidance, and strength to do it. Put me on the path of life and guide my steps. I declare today that I choose life! I will follow Jesus!

{Ephesians 6:10-13; ESV}
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.

Lord, I ask that You will clothe me with Your armor this day so I will be able to stand firm against the attacks of the enemy.

Put the belt of truth around my waist so I will live a life of integrity. Put the breastplate of righteousness on me so I can do the good works that You have prepared me to accomplish. Place the shoes of the gospel of peace on my feet so I can stand firm, because I know I have been reconciled to You. May my feet also have the willingness to take me to where I need to be to share the Gospel with people.

Put in my hand the shield of faith and give me the knowledge and experience I need to use the shield effectively. May my faith prove to be a formidable barrier against the attacks of the enemy. Put upon my head the helmet of salvation which will give me confidence and hope in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Remind me that my life is secure in Him no matter what happens to my physical life.

Train me to use of the sword of the spirit, which is Your Word. I want to correctly handle this sword to gently convict my heart, as well as the hearts of others, with Your truth. Move me to pray at all times for the saints who are in need, and rouse people to pray for me as I move forward in Your will.

{John 8:36; ESV}
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Heavenly Father You are my King. To You alone do I pledge my allegiance. I long to be be part of the the Kingdom You have established through Jesus and live the free life You created me to live. My desire is to be Your child of freedom.

Deliver me Lord Jesus! I am not strong enough to break free from the chains and the bars which enslave me. My knowledge, self-discipline, and my strength have all failed me. I am so tired of living in bondage. It is time for me to live free!

Holy Spirit bring to mind those areas of my life which hold me in bondage. Give me the strength to surrender those areas to Jesus and heal the deep wounds that the chains of my slavery have caused on my heart. Show me a vision of what it means to live a free life.

I lay at the foot of the cross everything which entangles me. I surrender my sin. I surrender my addictions. I surrender my fears and my doubts. I renounce the allegiance I have formed with the kingdom of darkness. I declare that I belong to Jesus and to His Kingdom. For He has made me free!

{Galatians 5:1; ESV}
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Through the authority of Jesus Christ, who died for sin, I declare that I am free. He has rescued me from the kingdom of darkness and He has brought me into His Kingdom, the Kingdom of Light.

On the authority of Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead, I declare that I am no longer a slave, that all chains are broken, the power of sin has been defeated, and the bondage to Satan has ended.

By the authority of Jesus Christ, who now stands at the right hand of God, I declare that I will stand fast in freedom, that I will be a good steward of the life given to me, that I will hold on to the inheritance promised to me, and that I will not return to the slavery of sin.

On the authority of Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord, I renounce all bondage to fear, to insecurities, to greed, to despair, and to depression. I renounce all sexual addictions, all drug addictions, and all people pleasing addictions. And I renounce all bondage to self-centeredness, to the cultural idols, and anything else that has the power to enslave me. For who the Son has set free is free indeed!**

Hear these prayers of my heart! It is in the powerful name of Jesus Christ that I pray, amen.
