{Matthew 22:37-40; ESV}

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your great love. The fact that You loved me, even when I was in open rebellion against, is a reality that is beyond my comprehension. Help to understand the depths of Your great love. As the apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians; [T]o know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge (3:19), is my desire.

Lord, I ask that You will teach me to love. My love is often weak and fickle, and it is a struggle at times to properly love my family and friends. I desire the love that seeks to serve, that willingly sacrifices, and that reaches out to the outcasts. Empower me, through the Holy Spirit, to love even my enemies. Improve the quality of my love so I can reflect Your image in this world.

It is in the name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior, that I pray, amen.
